Black History Month bei EOTO
Der Februar steht im Zeichen des Black History Month (BHM). In diesem Jahr bietet Each One Teach One (EOTO) e.V. im Rahmen des BHM mehr als ein Dutzend Veranstaltungen zu afrodiasporischer Geschichte und Kultur. Einen Auszug aus dem Programm, das in Zusammenarbeit mit Community Organisationen wie der WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN, Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland (ISD), Diversifying Matters und Generation Adefra, Black Business Matters, dem Tebalou Online Store und vielen anderen entstanden ist, findet ihr weiter unten. Eröffnung / Opening
Das Jahr 2019 markiert die Halbzeit der von den United Nations (UN) ausgerufenen Dekade für Menschen afrikanischer Herkunft. Was sich seit Beginn der Dekade in Deutschland und Berlin ereignet hat und was in Deutschland, aber auch mit unseren afrikanischen Partner*innen unternommen werden muss, um die Dekade umzusetzen, wollen wir beim Auftakt unseres Black History Months diskutieren. Das Gespräch mit der Vertreterin der UN-Dekade in Brüssel, Elisabeth Kaneza und Dr. Maisha Auma, Peggy Piesche und Katja Kinder von Diversifying Matters wird moderiert von Karen Taylor. Veranstaltungssprachen sind Englisch und Deutsch.

Afro Lux Market
Afro Lux will be holding its next weekend market. In addition to mouth watering culinary highlights, there will be artists and vendors from Africa and the African Diaspora with handmade clothing, jewelry, make-up, art, toys and other gifts - and a performance of live music on Sunday evening. Here everyone will find the perfect present for their loved ones.

Black Business Matters
Black Business Matters is a platform to meet other professionals and business people, to recognize and create business opportunities. Having a focus on black entrepreneurship is about promoting and supporting ourselves. Black Business Matters (BBM) is a referral Network, where the business community can mutually benefit from one another. BBM is about giving each other advise, creating new business projects and providing rolemodels for the younger generation. Being involved in Black Business Matters means contributing to the success of your own business. This event is for Black, African and African diasporic communities. Please register here or here.

Perspectives on Black Queerness - Ballroom Culture in Berlin (feat. House of Melody)
Join us as we explore the Berlin Ball Room scene, reflect on Ball Room history and get to understand the meaning behind its categories and moves. Right after the event, everybody is invited to head on to the "Love is in the Air" Kiki ball by kiki house of Arise at SchwuZ.

Lesung & Gespräch: Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor
Die vielfach ausgezeichnete kenianische Autorin Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor liest aus ihren Werken Dust und ihrem neuen Roman The Dragonfly Sea. Dazu gibt es Passagen aus der deutschen Übersetzung von Dust, dass als Der Ort an dem die Reise endet erschienen ist. Der Berliner Journalist und Autor Mohamed Amjahid führt durch den Abend. Aber auch das Publikum hat reichlich Gelegenheit für Fragen und Diskussion mit der Autorin.

Children's Books Reading
Michelle Bartley and Cassianne Lawrence will read from their children's books "Giraffe Travels" and "Afro Kid". The following conversation of the two authors about writing children's books in different cultural contexts will be paralleled by a Tebalou workshop for kids with handicraft work and painting. The event will be held in English.

EOTO representa: A cultura e historia Afrobrasiliera
Brasilien ist ohne afro-brasilianische Kultur undenkbar. Der Black History Month 2019 bietet einen vielseitigen Themenabend zur Geschichte und Gegenwart von Schwarzen Menschen in Brasilien und zelebriert dabei afro-brasilianische Kultur, Küche und Spiritualität. Mit Wagner Carvalho, Zé de Paiva, Tai Linhares und Murah Soares.

Film: "The Mayor's Race" A documentary film by Loraine Blumenthal
Marvin Rees is a man in his 40’s. Having experienced poverty and racism in his life, he wants to shape the society he lives in and believes political office will give him the power to do so. In 2012 he runs for mayor in Bristol, UK. The journey into politics hits him with rejection, failure and an inner struggle that eventually leads to the biggest challenge of his life. THE MAYOR’S RACE is about the desire to overcome doubt and the boundaries between social background and power. The film will be shown in English. The event is a cooperation of Werkstatt der Kulturen, Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland and Each One Teach One (EOTO) e.V.
